My body of work explores the unseen beauty and complexity of the natural world through detailed gouache and watercolour paintings of insects. Each insect is in a distinct, vibrant colour palette, allowing me to investigate the diverse range of colour in nature that often goes unnoticed in everyday life. These tiny creatures, frequently overlooked or avoided, become central figures in my work, magnified and reimagined to challenge the viewer’s perception of beauty and importance. By spotlighting these creatures in an isolated manner, I aim to focus the audience’s eyes on the overlooked and question the tendency to dismiss what we cannot easily see or understand. My work is ultimately about perception, how we assign value, how we see colour, and what we choose to notice.
