Where learning, wellbeing and Islamic identity grow together
At Unity Grammar, our Junior School is a place where young learners are known, nurtured and inspired.
We believe education is about more than academics, it is about developing confident, capable children grounded in faith, character and a love of learning.
Our Junior School initiatives are designed to support every learner’s growth: emotionally, socially, spiritually and intellectually.
Why Families Choose Unity
Unity offers something deeply meaningful: a learning environment where Islamic values are not simply taught, they are lived.
Islam at Unity is embedded into everyday learning, relationships and school culture.
From Qur’an learning and halaqah circles to community celebrations such as our Year 3 Hijab Celebration, learners are supported to embrace their identity with confidence, pride and joy.
We nurture learners who are grounded in faith, connected to community, and prepared to thrive in the wider world.

Faith Lived, Not Just Taught
Islam at Unity is woven into everyday school life, not confined to a single subject or lesson.Through regular Qur’an learning with meaningful feedback and reflection, and community moments such as our Year 3 Hijab Celebration, learners experience their faith as joyful, visible and lived with confidence. Families are invited into this journey through parent halaqah circles and shared faith-based conversations.
Building Bright Learners
Building Bright Learners is Unity Grammar’s Junior School initiative focused on developing confidence, character and leadership from the early years.Through structured classroom reflection and guided discussions, learners explore how their choices impact others, practise positive decision-making, and grow in self-awareness and responsibility. The program supports learners to become thoughtful, resilient and community-minded young leaders.
Personalised Wellbeing & Learning Support
Every learner is known and supported at Unity Grammar. With a dedicated wellbeing space, strong partnerships with families, and individual learner support plans, we ensure each child receives the care they need to flourish. Learners can also access professional support including psychologists, speech therapists and occupational therapists, creating a wraparound approach to wellbeing, learning and growth.
Writing & Literacy Excellence
Our Junior School writing program is designed to build confident, capable communicators from the early years.Through explicit instruction, rich mentor texts and structured support, learners develop vocabulary, sentence craft and clarity of expression. Writing is taught intentionally with opportunities for reflection, feedback and growth, helping learners articulate ideas with confidence across all subject areas.
Strong Family Partnership
Unity Grammar believes education is strongest when families and educators work together.Through parent workshops, guest speakers, faith-based discussions and regular communication, we create meaningful opportunities for families to engage in their child’s learning journey. Initiatives such as parent halaqah circles and focused parenting sessions support connection between home and school.
Enrichment That Inspires
Each term, learners participate in engaging experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom. From STEAM and science initiatives to inquiry-based projects and excursions, learners are encouraged to explore, question and discover. These experiences nurture curiosity, creativity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Day in the Life of a Junior School Learner
Our unique programs, values and routines empower learners every day, at every stage. We structure each day differently for learners at different stages, to ensure they are always engaged and always growing.
Roll Call & Canteen Orders
Junior School learners begin the day with roll marking, organisation and a calm start.Lunch orders are also taken during this time through One Third, Unity Grammar’s school canteen. Inspired by Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) teaching of balance and moderation, our canteen promotes a mindful approach to nourishment: one-third for food, one-third for drink, and one-third for breath.
Morning Assembly
Assembly is an important part of the Unity Grammar routine. It supports learners to build confidence, develop responsibility, and align their intentions for the day ahead. Through reminders, celebrations and shared messages, learners are encouraged to reflect on their values, behaviour and learning goals.
Hear from our Junior School Principal, Hibba Mourad, as she explains the significance of morning assembly and how it helps shape a positive learning culture for every learner.
Period 1 & 2
The morning learning block begins with structured lessons that build strong foundations and consistent routines. Learners are supported through explicit teaching, guided practice and purposeful learning experiences across key curriculum areas. Learning is brought to life through meaningful projects, such as Year 5’s Write a Book to Change the World, where learners write and illustrate their own children’s books. These books are available for purchase from our Digital Library accessible in the quicklinks menu.
Values
Values time is a meaningful part of the Junior School day, supporting learners to reflect, reset and strengthen character. At Unity Grammar, learners are recognised for living our values through a structured rewards and recognition program. Learners can earn values pins to wear with pride, celebrating consistent effort and positive choices.
Recess
Recess gives learners time to recharge, socialise and enjoy active play in a safe and supervised environment. This break supports wellbeing and positive relationships, helping learners return to learning refreshed, focused and ready to engage.
Period 3 & 4
After recess, learners return to class for deeper learning through structured routines and hands-on experiences. For example, our Year 2 learners explore 'All Mixed Up' in Science, using practical experiments with oil, water and other liquids to investigate why some substances do not mix. Learners then connect this learning to real-world issues such as oil spills by testing clean-up methods and discussing environmental impact.
Lunch
Lunch time allows learners to eat, socialise and reset for the afternoon. It is a valuable opportunity for connection and wellbeing, supported by staff supervision and clear expectations for safe, respectful behaviour.
Prayer
Prayer is an important part of the daily routine at Unity Grammar. Daily prayer helps learners pause, reflect and reconnect with purpose throughout the school day, supporting calm and positive learning habits. On Fridays, learners also take part in Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers, strengthening identity, community connection and a shared sense of belonging.
Period 5
Period 5 includes hands-on learning in the AstroLab, Unity Grammar’s state-of-the-art STEM facility, designed to support creativity, innovation and future-focused learning. Built around a design-thinking model for innovation, the AstroLab is one of the most advanced facilities of its type in the country, engaging learners and educators through purposeful problem-solving and exploration. The AstroLab is named after the astrolabe, invented by a Muslim pioneer and used around the world for centuries—connecting learners to a legacy of discovery, contribution and excellence.
