Community Comes Together for the Launch of Unity Foundation

Unity Foundation was officially launched on Thursday 20 August at a community dinner held at Bayti in Parramatta.

The evening brought together Unity Grammar founders, educators, families, community leaders and supporters to learn more about the Foundation, the work it will support and the long-term vision for the future of Islamic education.

Unity Foundation is the charitable arm and endowment of Unity Grammar. It has been established to support the long-term growth of the Unity group, expand access to high-quality Islamic education and provide greater support to learners and families.

Unity Foundation Chair Khalil Hafza opened the evening by reflecting on the establishment and growth of Unity Grammar and explaining why the Foundation is an important next step for the school and its community.

The evening also recognised the people whose commitment helped establish Unity Grammar. Hamad Joud was presented with an olive tree and commemorative plaque in recognition of his contribution, alongside members of the founding board.

Guests were then introduced to the future direction of Unity through a presentation by Dr Sayd Farook. This included the expansion of the Unity group through Vantage by Unity, Unity Online and other education initiatives, as well as the 2030 Masterplan for a new purpose-built Junior School campus in Austral.

The proposed campus will include modern classrooms, flexible learning areas, outdoor learning and play environments, technology-enabled spaces, dedicated wellbeing facilities and community gathering areas. A 3D model of the new campus was presented to guests during the evening.

Beyond campus development, Unity Foundation will support scholarships for talented and values-driven learners who may otherwise be unable to access a Unity education. It will also provide financial assistance to families experiencing hardship, helping learners continue their education with stability and dignity.

Ustadh Ali Assaad, Head of Islamic Faith at Unity Grammar, spoke about the importance of Waqf and Sadaqah Jariyah and the ongoing reward of contributing to education. He encouraged the community to consider how sustained giving can strengthen Islamic education and benefit learners and families well into the future.

The evening concluded with a pledge appeal led by Mohammad Khodr and Dario Hawat, with members of the community committing their support to the Foundation and its work.

The launch of Unity Foundation is an important step in building a stronger and more sustainable future for Unity Grammar and the wider community. Through the 2030 Masterplan, scholarships, financial hardship assistance and long-term investment in education, the Foundation will help ensure more learners can access an education grounded in Islamic faith, academic excellence and service.
